Like a Spear (into the shadow that lay on the path)

SEPTEMBER

Casey Wei's exhibition of new work at the Small Gallery combines Nathanael West's 1933 novel Miss Lonelyhearts (as well as Vincent J. Donehue's 1958 filmic adaptation) with Roman Polanski's classic neo-noir, Chinatown (1974).  Wei is interested in unfolding the narratives that surround the process of producing and consuming films -- from their origin as words on a page, to the actors and crew on a set, to images on a screen and beyond, as they are incorporated into cultural history and popular consciousness.

One component of the exhibition is a sound installation of West's Miss Lonelyhearts suitable for one listener at a time.  Appointments can be made by email, at: amnabata@gmail.com
